Love this breakdown. Really curious to see how they manage growing the user base on Notes while avoiding enshittification. Right now it’s such a good environment.
Couldn't agree more. It feels like a great balance right now - real question is will they be able to keep that balance or shift towards more short form content.
Ouch. There’s a name for it: Trough of Sorrow! Financial Satire, while fairly popular with my SBD (small but devoted) subscriber base, is not a barn burner. Shocking, I know. And perhaps I should have ported over my LinkedIn followers. To add to my 1,700 other followers who just like to follow. I even offered a paid tier to not publish at all. Crickets. But thank you for this analysis!
Exactly… Converting free subscribers to paid subscribers has been much harder than I thought but that’s ok. I’m totally new so I get not wanting to commit. Definitely a good idea to move LinkedIn followers over :)
For now, I’m just really appreciating the community and learning from those around me.
“Chris Best, the man with the idea, created Substack due to his frustration around exactly this. Media companies like ByteDance and Instagram were using an algorithm focused on addicting their users. Chris thought that these platforms focused on outrage and superficial content and used advertisements to maximize monetization efficiency.“
I agree. What I like about Substack is that the algorithm seems less focused on outrage. Not to mention, everyone here is much more chill. Nice work!
Thank you🙏🏽
Thank you!
Awesome work, as always!! A private company I am sure we all are rooting for to do well. 👏
Exactly, we’re all on the same page here!!
And thank you!

Thanks so much and glad you enjoyed.
I couldn’t agree more, feel like Substack has done an excellent job making the feed as interesting as possible without short form rage bait content.
I am grateful for and Love Substack and all the creators here, thank you!
Thank you Bill and couldn’t agree more!
